Why people love it

A standout slice of Barbados

Friday and Saturday night institution on the south coast — grilled fish, rum, soca and karaoke at the Bay Garden. No booking, just walk in and join locals and visitors in equal measure.

What to expect

The experience, end to end

Every Friday and Saturday night the Bay Garden in Oistins turns into one of the Caribbean's most beloved street parties.

Vendors grill mahi-mahi, flying fish, lobster and tuna to order, served with macaroni pie, rice and peas and plantain.

There's a DJ stage, live bands, line-dancing and an unmistakable Bajan crowd.

Friday is the busier, more touristic night; many locals prefer Saturday or weekday lunchtimes.

It's a free, open, walk-in event — no tickets and no reservations.

Good to know

Before you go

  • No booking — it's an open, weekly walk-in event.
  • Getting there is easy: Oistins sits on the main south-coast road, so any taxi will know it and the ZR vans / Transport Board buses running the south-coast route (Bridgetown ↔ Oistins ↔ Silver Sands) drop you right at the Bay Garden.
  • Peak night is Friday from ~7pm.
  • Bring cash (BBD) and allow time for queues at the popular stalls (Pat's, Uncle George's).

Before you leave

Getting home safely

Oistins runs late — well past midnight on Friday and Saturday — and by the time you leave, the ZR vans and public buses have usually stopped for the night. Plan your ride home before you start drinking: agree a pickup with a licensed taxi (look for the yellow 'Z' number plates), save the driver's number, or ask one of the food stalls to call a trusted driver for you. Avoid unmarked cars offering lifts.
